Analysis of the development impact of the Iraqi Initiative for Transparency reports in extractive industries

  Iraqi Alliance for Transparency in The Extractive Industries in cooperation with THER Development Center, held a dialogue session in Basra on Friday 29th October 2021 for 20 activists from civil society organizations from Basra, Muthanna, Maysan and DhiQar to analyze the development impact of the initiative's reports for transparency in extractive industries, in cooperation with THER Development Center and with the support of NORAD Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation, a number of specialists and interested in this field participated in the discussion, and as part of the vision of a united civil society project for the transparent oil industry, an activity within a larger project to be implemented in three countries of Iraq, Lebanon and Kenya.

The attendees discussed a significant number of the contents of the report and finding appropriate solutions to improve accountability, governance and transparency in the Iraqi oil sector, especially in cities of extraction industries such as Basra.

The dialogue was moderated by Mr. Saad Al-Batat, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Iraqi Initiative for Transparency in The Extractive Industries, which included matching oil revenues for 2018 and putting them in the right context for the benefit of all Iraqis through the equitable distribution of wealth and optimal investment to it, how to distribute social benefits and petrodollars, develop the regions for provinces, ensure the transparency of contracts and ownership of benefit to companies in the strategic industries sector.
